Haha. Thanks Andrew. Its a concept that I had been thinking of exploring for a while now. It always confused me why people considered darkness and light to be ontologically opposite.

I think it's mainly just tautological, meaning the definition itself helps to explain why folks view things this way. Darkness is the absence of light, as you rightly point out, like silence is simply the absence of sound. But for millennia, nobody actually knew the physics underlying "light" and "dark", so we tended to view them almost as substances against one another.
